I just updated Fedora Core to 6 from 4, and forgot to save my profile settings, but I found the post someone responded for me to boost fps. I just did it and my fps literally shot up at least 10. anyway, here it is for anyone (and I'm sure it's all of you Smile) who would like to get more fps playing WoW:
Quote:
There are a few tricks that may help FPS, but first can you open a command prompt and run:
Code:
cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status
then copy the output here. After that is finished, run
Code:
glxgears
and paste the FPS results into your reply. This is to just make sure the Nvidia driver is setup properly.
I have a FX5900 with most settings maxed, and I get around 20 in populated areas, 40-60 in empty areas, 70+ in caves.
As for tweaking Cedega, there are a few things you can do:
Assuming you have version 5.0.3 with P2P: Edit the profile that is used for WoW, right click the program and click Edit Profile. On the General Tab, make sure Scheduler is set to "No" and both "Decrease WineServer Priority" and "Accelerated Interprocess Communication" are checked.
Under Graphics:
Set Pixel Shaders to version 1.3, make sure the Video ram is set to the amount your card has, and the AGP Vertex Data is set to about half what your Video ram is. Set Fixed Program to No, Fragment Offset to Tex, and Non Power of Two Textures to Yes. Then check Fixed GL extention Buffer and add "-GL_ARB_vertex_buffer_object" (no quotes) to the Manual GL Extensions.
Hopefully that helps some, but I would recommend backing up your config before editing. I believe there are a few things I need to test some more, but this config has worked for me so far. If I find anything that needs to be changed, ill post it here, ill tweak some more next chance I get. If anyone thinks theres something wrong with one of these settings, let me know and ill check it.

Sadly, none of these well known fixes put me anywhere near windows xp performance. :/

These got me to 40-50fps where I'd been at a constant 12-15 previously. Thanks for posting 'em!

A remarkable improvement in IF, as well as Org AH.
I dunno how much, but somewhere around 10-15FPS. Overall, much smoother. Still need a new computer--but that's another issue entirely.

Wow, That was my old post from a while ago (check my post history). I spent a long time tweaking my system and scouring the forums for some of those fixes. I'd like to put some of that stuff in perspective, most of these settings were for AGP cards only.
The biggest booster of all was the GL_ARB_vertex_buffer_object setting. It originally started out as an ATI card fix but was soon discovered as a great FPS booster for WoW.
The other settings were helpful, but did almost nothing compared to GL_ARB. I haven't used Cedega in a while, I have a feeling some of those other tweaks might be out of date (you cant even use the fastwrite tweak I had posted later that thread on PCI-Express cards.)
I quit WoW for a while shortly after I wrote those tips, ill probably see what it takes to get a clean linux system to run WoW fast with the minimum tweaking. Wow on linux has really gotten better since I left.
Look foward to an updated tweak guide, but I wouldn't mind if someone else stepped up and did it for me (blah work/life/ect).
