basically im looking to get two nvidia geforce 8800 GTS's, but im just curious what everyone is running. I have no idea whether the directX10 capabilities that come with the geforce will have any effect on my gameplay/screen rates. I do know its time to get rid of the generic card thats in my box now, I havent played being that I am away from home for awhile and i want to get some wise imput before i come home, drop some money, and find out i went way overboard.....

If you only want to play in linux , i would say 2 8800 gts are definitively not worth the money ! I never tested sli in linux, but i don't think it will speed up games with cedega a lot.
Buy only one 8800gts cause it has enough power. And it will support Opengl 3.0 later this year.
What CPU do you have ?

i was just looking at this card right here
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2824836&CatId=2514
its a custom thing i put together in '05, running suse 10.0 on an amd 64 bit system, i left the states in march, and i want to order something now, so i can just put it right in when i get back in sept. the only game i play is wow, so basically im just doing this to get the best fps possible. im thinking my three options are 1 gtx, 2 gts's, or just 1 gts if it really is that powerful. im sorta out of the loop, so i dont know what kind of graphics software is coming out in the near future...

WoW is not a graphics intensive game (sorry guys its true!) Just one of those cards is overkill. But, if that is the card you want go for it. Just don't bother getting two of them. SLI won't do you any good with cedega.
If the only game you play is WoW then there is no reason whatsoever to get that card. You could go with something much easier on the wallet and still get fantastic performance.

I am running a 7800gt in dual screen with WoW on full settings with no lower than 40 fps. Beryl is running also.

I have a 640M 8800GTS, but in my opinion most games running in Cedega, including WoW, are CPU-limited. I have one CPU core at 100% nearly all the time in WoW, Oblivion, HL2 etc., even though the graphics shouldn't be that much for the card to handle (at 1280x720).

This is absolutely true. If you want to make a big improvement with Cedega then the CPU is where you should consider making your upgrade.

Perhaps we should survey hardware setups instead of limiting it to just GPUs.
My girlfriend and I both picked up 320M 8800GTS cards two weeks ago due to a really good sale, and we're pretty disappointed so far. Raiding in SSC pretty much torpedoes our framerates in D3D at 1920x1200 (like <10fps with no multisampling or AA during vashj).
We're both using Athlon 64 3200+ with 2GB of PC3200, could it be our non-video hardware that's causing this bottleneck?
Is there anyone out there with another datapoint for comparison?

We were trying that last night, and got some pretty excessive screen tearing and graphical corruption Sad
I'm planning on playing around with the settings more tomorrow. There are so many conflicting cedega graphics settings on this board that it seems to come down to exploring every permutation of settings and picking the one that gives the best performance on your hardware.
That said, is there anything specifically necessary for opengl? All the threads here kind of blend together after a while.

I run two Nvidia 7950gt's, these are great for native games, however, Cedega and Wine do not take advantage of SLi yet. I have put up a request here http://www.cedega.com/postlist.php?forum=1263 scroll down till you find the SLi Support request, need 2 more people to second it in order to get it on the Ballot.
/cheers
Rob
P.S. Unreal Tournament 2004 is excellent on SLi setups, I've got it turned up as far as it will go, and not so much as a little hickup.

I seconded your poll request. Only one more vote needed to send it on to Transgaming. Someone take a moment to get it sent on.

Im currently using a Geforce 8600 GTS 256MB card and i have some performance issues as well.
There was a post earlier though that said that the Nvidia 100.xx.xx drivers have somewhat broken the cedega pixel shaders and that this was being worked on. I dont know if this was fully fixed or not but i'd imagine that a cedega 6.1 will be released soon with this fixed.

Looks like the request for SLI support was rejected without explanation. I don't understand why Transgaming would reject SLI support. I guess this will be another thing that Wine has before Cedega.
